Fundraising Focus – May 2023

The team at ME Research UK is very grateful for all the support which the charity receives from its active fundraisers. At the best of times fundraising can seem a daunting prospect but without your support we could not continue to inform, influence or invest in ME research globally. Our current projects simply would not be funded.

Feel inspired? Our Fundraising Guide gives tips and links to resourses to get your support off to a flying start.

If fundraising, it is worthwhile to check with your employer to see if they offer a Matched Funding scheme which will add to your fundraising pot.

If you know of any other fundraising opportunities offered by companies – contact us.

ME Research UK is one of 9 supported charities for Bake4ME/CFS. Based on themes – with the Coronation (6th May) and The Great Outer Space Bakeoff (5th to 31st May) being the most immediate – this continueing project is sure to find favour with bakers old and new.

Draw for M.E. is the title of Holly Aldred’s JustGiving fundraising page. In Holly’s own words “I was diagnosed with M.E. many years back, but was fortunate enough to only have a mild case, and I refused to let it interfere with my life. Unfortunately, M.E. doesn’t care about your hopes and dreams, and the more I fought it, the more ill I became, until in 2019 I even had to leave employment as symptoms worsened, and could no longer be held at bay with caffeine and prescription painkillers.”

As part of Walk for ME 2023, Alan Avis and friends Pinch and John, will be walking from the Isle of Wight’s Ryde Pier to the Needles over 3 days in July – and all in aid of research.

Rob will be walking 500 miles for ME over the course of 100 days to greet the sunrise. Each walk will entail a 5 mile round trip and entail a 650ft elevation and so, over the course of 100 days he will have covered 500 miles and climbed the equivalent of twice the height of Mount Everest.
Rob has 3 family members affected with ME with his son, for whom he is a carer, being bed-bound. Rising at 3.45am will allow Rob to walk before resuming his caring responsibilities.
