Fundraising Focus – May 2025

The team at ME Research UK is very grateful for all the support which the charity receives from its active fundraisers. At the best of times fundraising can seem a daunting prospect but without your support we could not continue to inform, influence or invest in ME research globally. Our current projects simply would not be funded.

Feel inspired? Our Fundraising Guide gives tips and links to resources to get your support off to a flying start.

If fundraising, it is worthwhile to check with your employer to see if they offer a Matched Funding scheme which will add to your fundraising pot.

If you know of any other fundraising opportunities offered by companies – contact us.

Elizabeth Hall is walking for ME on May 16. She is walking for her sister and for the millions of people who live with ME. She says that “six years ago, her life was quietly stolen by a disease that leaves her exhausted, in pain, and battling to do even the smallest of things. What others take for granted – walking… can cost her everything”. She walks to raise awareness – and we want to say thank you Elizabeth for doing this amazing thing.

Lydia Desmond is walking for ME in May. She was diagnosed with ME/CFS in September 2024, and she says it has a daily impact with symptoms varying throughout the day and extreme flare ups occurring at times of pressure and stress.

She walks to raise funds and to raise awareness. Thank you, Lydia, for helping to spotlight ME/CFS and to raise funds for research.

Amy Elliott is fundraising in aid of ME Research UK.

She writes on her JustGiving that “… doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?” Jennifer Brea

Thank you Amy.

Beth Hewitt is attempting a 10k run to fundraise in aid of ME Research UK via Walk for M.E. As she writes on her JustGiving page, “Walk for M.E allows family and friends to walk, run, swim, hop any distance they choose, to do something that their loved one would love to be able to do but can’t.”

Thank you Beth – we wish you good luck.

Max Roth has participated in the Glasgow Kilt Walk in April.

From all of us at ME Research UK, we just want to say thank you Max for taking the initiative to do this fundraiser.

It means a lot to us and to the millions of people who live with ME worldwide.

Isaac is 14 years old and has organised an online concert in time for ME Awareness Day on May 12 and Blue Sunday for ME – The Tea Party on May 19. He is hoping to help raise awareness of ME and fundraise in aid of ME Research UK and SMILE for ME. He has received support from amazing musicians and performers and is also going to perform himself. What an amazing thing to do, Isaac – thank you so much.

Paul Newton is fundraising in memory of his dad. We want to thank him for honouring his memory – and we want to thank him for making this meaningful impact to ME research worldwide.
