Virgin Money Giving – Closing

In a surprise move, Virgin Money Giving has today (26th August 2021) announced it is to close on 30th November 2021.

Many supporters use Virgin Money Giving either to donate regularly to ME Research UK or as a fundraising platform for events. Supporters and fundraisers will require to make alternative arrangements to ensure continuity of fundraising and donations.

Virgin Money Giving was launched with the ambition to provide charities and fundraisers with a not-for-profit alternative to other fundraising websites. However, their website will be open only until midnight on 30 November 2021 at which point they will stop accepting donations. From 1 December until 18 February 2022, they will keep claiming Gift Aid on all relevant donations; and close finally on 18 February 2022.

ME Research UK has contacted all regular donors with alternative ways to continue to give –

  • Via your own bank to set-up a regular payment directly into our account. There are no fees deducted by our bank.
    • ME Research UK
    • A/c 50419466
    • Sort Code 82-67-09

Please put a narrative on payment (e.g. your name).

We can still claim Gift Aid on your donations (if appropriate) but would require a signed Gift Aid declaration form from you.

  • Print off and return a Standing Order form and we will send it to your bank. The form includes a Gift Aid declaration (allows us to claim 25% of your donation from HMRC). This would be fee-free.
  • There are a number of online options but most popular (fees payable) are –
    1. CAF (Charity Aid Foundation)
    2. JustGiving
    3. Give as You Live

For fundraisers – JustGiving is the most popular and the largest platform available but fees are deducted. There’s also which has lower fees.
