Today marks the start of the ISLC-PAIS (International Society for Long COVID and Post-Acute Infection Syndromes) Conference in Amsterdam, and ME Research UK is in attendance in person.
The conference programme includes talks from researchers who have worked on projects funded by ME Research UK, such as:
- Rob Wüst – Prof.Wüst, who leads ME Research UK-funded work on muscle microclots and microvascular pathology in ME/CFS is the “conference chair” – the person responsible for planning, organising, and overseeing a conference, ensuring it runs smoothly and meets its objectives. Rob’s talk at the conference is entitled “Skeletal muscle alterations and post-exertional malaise in Long COVID and ME/CFS.”
- Jolien Hendrix – Jolien is a PhD candidate who works with Jo Nijs, Andrea Polli, and Jente Van Campenhout on ME Research UK-funded research at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Jolien will present work, which, although not directly funded by ME Research UK, uses used samples obtained during their previous ME Research UK-funded project.
- Carmen Scheibenbogen – Prof. Schiebenbogen from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, who worked on ME Research UK-funded research analysing antibody responses against EBV-derived antigens in ME/CFS, will talk about “The role of autoimmunity in PAIS.”
- Sarah Annesley – Dr Annesley, who isSenior Researcher & Head Molecular Cell Biology Laboratory at La Trobe University, Melbourne, will speak about “altered cellular metabolism in ME/CFS and transcriptomic overlap with long COVID”. Dr Annesley has secured funding from ME Research UK for two projects, a PhD level study with Tina Katsaros entitled “cause-effect relationships in the mitochondrial energy inefficiency in ME/CFS” most recently, “do microRNAs regulate platelet activation and metabolic dysfunction in women with ME/CFS?”
ME Research UK will publish conference highlights in due course. In the meantime, the conference organising team have created a pre-conference magazine, which features “key themes, speakers and highlights from the programme”.
