New study to create an accurate biomarker panel for ME/CFS

ME Research UK is delighted to announce that we have awarded funding to a team of interdisciplinary researchers led by Prof. Chris Ponting at the University of Edinburgh for a new study investigating the use of blood-based markers to help in the diagnosis of ME/CFS.

The highly interdisciplinary team of researchers are: Audrey Ryback, Ava Khamseh and Sjoerd Beentjes from the University of Edinburgh, and Caroline Dalton from Sheffield Hallam University.

The researchers plan to measure the levels of around 1,100 proteins in plasma samples from people with ME/CFS and control subjects, and use machine learning to classify the participants based on their diagnosis.

The development of an accurate ME/CFS biomarker panel “would be transformational for people with ME/CFS”.
