As part of ME Awareness Week 2016, there was a ‘drop in’ meeting today for members of the All Party Parliamentary group on ME at Westminster and any other MPs who wanted to come along. The main campaigning charities had a display table, with representatives available to talk to MPs. The co-chair of the group is our Patron, The Countess of Mar, and she was at the reception “all bright eyed and bushy tailed”, as she says, to greet the visitors.
The talk which the Countess of gave to members of the Royal Society of Medicine last year can still be read here; “…despite all the fine words of Ministers and report writers, I repeatedly ask myself why it is that the recognition and treatment of this illness has remained in the doldrums for so long…. Far too many professionals treating and caring for people with ME have not received the message about the seriousness of the condition”.
