Congratulations to Drs Clare Hutchinson and Frank Proudlock at Leicester University for obtaining funding from 2 ophthalmic charities for additional support of their research programme into vision impairments in ME/CFS. The awards allow work, including retinal imaging, to continue on a range of topics (dry eye, pupil responses to light, distance focussing, clarity and depth of vision, and the perception of colour).

The programme in Leicester was initiated with funding from ME Research UK which resulted in 3 scientific papers showing a number of visual impairments in ME/CFS patients, and at present, we are funding the team to explore the specific problems patients have with reading. We’re delighted that ophthalmology charities have stepped up to the plate to help the research programme grow and prosper!
